John Chilleri is a PhD student in the Mathematics department. After completing his Bachelors in Math at NMT, then his Masters in Math at NMT, he decided that it still wasn't enough NMT, so he returned for his PhD. Throughout his academic career, John has been involved in numerous interdisciplinary research projects. In 2015, working with his advisor Dr. Brian Borchers, fellow student Sebastian Hendrickx-Rodriguez, and NMT Hydrology Professor Dr. Jan Hendrickx, John was awarded a WRRI Student Water Research Grant, which resulted in the report titled "Calibration procedures for large aperture scintillometers". In 2016, John was funded by the New Mexico Consortium Student Augmentation Program, in what would eventually become his Master's Thesis, titled "Sensitivity of Particle Fluxes Measured by the Van Allen Probes to Variations in the Modeled Magnetic and Electric Fields." In 2017, John began researching with former NMT Mathematics Professor Dr. Yanyan He, which resulted in two publications, titled "Optimal allocation of computational resources based on Gaussian process: Application to molecular dynamics simulations" and "Sensitivity analysis for an electron transport system: application to the case of wurtzite gallium nitride", both of which were sponsored by the Army Research Laboratory. Continuing his relationship with one of the co-authors of the latter paper, Dr. Stephen O'Leary, Electrical Engineering Professor at The University of British Columbia School of Engineering, John began researching into the velocity field characteristics of compound semiconductors, resulting in one publication thus far. With Dr. O'Leary as his research advisor and Dr. Brian Borchers as his academic advisor, John hopes to complete his PhD by May of 2022.
Aside from research, John spends his time TAing classes, attempting to stay active in NMT's swim club, promoting self-confidence among intramural soccer players by consistently being the worst player, and fantasizing about somehow being cast as the next Captain America. If you ever want to chat, especially about making the right choice and switching to the math department, his door is always open... for two hours each week during his office hours.

This event will feature two NMT scientists: Dr. Matt Heizer (New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources, NMT Earth & Environmental Science) who will discuss data integrity and ethical standards, and Dr. Becky Reiss (NMT Biology Emeritus Faculty) who will explore data transparency and ownership. There will be small group discussions of case studies, and the event will be available with a hybrid option via Zoom.
The event is free, recorded, and open to NMT students, faculty, and staff (including all NMT affiliates). *For any labs or research groups that attend at least 3 of 4 workshops in this series, your team will be eligible for a free dinner raffle.* For more information on the series, click here.

Completion paperwork for Fall graduation
If you are planning to graduate in December the completed report of the advisory committee, iThenticate report from academic advisor, and ProQuest submission of the final thesis/dissertation must be submitted to and accepted by the Center for Graduate Studies or one final copy of an accepted independent study paper must be submitted to the student’s advisor and advisory committee. Please refer to the Completion Guideline on the CGS website.
Student degrees are not complete until final materials have been approved by the Center for Graduate Studies and the student receives final acceptance via email from the ProQuest system.
