Madeline is a second year PhD student in Earth and Environmental Sciences studying marine geophysics. Before beginning graduate school at NMT, Madeline received her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University - College of Engineering where she studied Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with a geophysics concentration. Her PhD research focuses on measuring and characterizing hydrothermal circulation in subduction systems and how it affects earthquake processes. She hopes that her work will help improve hazard mitigation for communities in earthquake prone areas. Madeline enjoys the opportunities to travel to the systems she studies such as Oregon, New Zealand, and soon Mexico.
Her other research interests include marine heat flow, deep source geothermal systems, and earthquake processes.
In her free time, Madeline participates in Socorro Search and Rescue and is looking forward to getting more involved in the Socorro community.

Road to R2 Carnegie Classification
We are very excited to report that for the academic year 2023-2024 NMT graduated 20+ PhDs. Combining this result with NMT's substantial research expenditure in excess of $100M, we are on the path towards Carnegie classification of R2. This would have not been possible without NMT's excellent graduate students and world-class faculty. NMT continues to attract high talent and with graduate enrollment on the rise with 7% increase for Fall 2024.
Why do we care?
|
- boosts our institutional ranking,
- gives NMT overdue recognition for the world class research conducted,
- provides additional funding opportunities for faculty, staff and students, and
- makes NMT more visible both nationally and internationally, resulting in greater recruiting opportunities of both faculty and students.

Time/Space to work on your thesis/dissertation
The Office of Graduate Studies will weekly announce on our website times when graduate students can come and work in our conference room on their thesis/dissertation. During this time you can focus on writing and you can ask questions as they come up whether about formatting, completion, copyright, plagiarism, etc. This is in addition to the services offered by the Writing & Communication Lab (WCL). If you are looking for writing support the WCL would be a much better resource. Please see below.
