Educational Objectives
How well do I need to know this subject. There are different levels
of understanding. These levels will help to let you know how well I
expect you know each subject.
- Knowledge
- At the base of the triangle.
- Not really understanding.
- Just remembering previously learned material.
- Can be put on a 3X5 card.
- Work fill in the formula problems.
- Test with short-answer, multiplechoice or TF questions
- Comprehension
- Ability to grasp the meaning of material.
- Lowest level of understanding.
- work problems just like in the example.
- Test with problems just like homework
- Application
- The ability to use learned material in new and concrete situations.
- Work new problems.
- Test with problems not seen in homework
- Analysis
- Break down a complex problem into parts so it can be understood.
- Represents a higher level of understanding than application, because
understanding both content and structure are required.
- Work complex problems.
- Test with problems not seen in homework
- Design
- Put it all together to form a new whole
- Creative behaviors are stressed.
- Know material backwards, forward, inside out, and in your sleep.
- Work problems that could have many correct answers or none.
- Test with design problems not seen in homework
- Evaluation
- Judge value of design for a given purpose.
- Highest level of intellectual activity, because elements of all
other categories are contained, plus conscious value judgments bases on clearly
defined criteria.
